Google Wallet
A generic pass created through the Google Wallet API, with Smart Tap turned on so the same reader can collect it.
What you get
Both passes for a made-up holder, drawn from the same data as the real ones. The pictures change every hour.
One use case per pass type
The same issuer, the same reader, other pass types. Each is a demo for one fictional organization in the village of Wolkenhain, clearly marked as such, with random data on every scan.
Ten-visit card
The open-air pool’s ten-visit card: visits left as the points balance, counted down at the turnstile.
Clubhouse credit
The sports club’s prepaid card for the bar: balance in euros on the front, drinks booked against it at the reader.
Member discount
A sponsor’s 15 % for club members: the deal on the front, the conditions on the back, redeemed at the till.
Summer fair ticket
The club’s summer fair: date, venue and area on the ticket, checked at the entrance, on the lock screen when it starts.
Try it with your own reader
Elatec TWN4 firmware
There is keyboard firmware for an Elatec TWN4 MultiTech: hold a demo pass from this page to the reader and it types the ID, followed by Enter, into whatever has focus.
It is not a free download, because a reader image carries its key in plain form: whoever has the file has the key. The demo key reads only these demo passes, never a real membership card, yet keys are handed out one by one and on purpose. Ask for it, I approve with a passkey, and you get a download link that works once within 24 hours.
ACS WalletMate II keys
The WalletMate II (ACR1552U-MW) needs no firmware of ours: it keeps wallet keys in its own slots and decrypts the pass itself. The package holds the commands that store the demo key in the Apple slot, a small PC/SC script that sends them and reads the slot back, and a README.
Same rules as for the image: the commands carry the key, so they go out on request, one at a time. The reader’s key-encryption key must still be the factory default.
How it works
Issue
An admin approves the card with a passkey. The server signs the Apple pass itself and creates the Google pass at Google.
Tap
An Elatec TWN4 reader at the door asks the phone for the pass over NFC. Apple encrypts the answer for the club’s VAS key, Google authenticates the reader with Smart Tap.
Decide
The reader passes the value to the server, which checks membership and validity at that moment. Revoked cards are greyed out in the wallet.
